Welcome!

Welcome!

Hello and thank you for visiting my web site! I am an amateur radio operator based in Lenexa, Kansas, USA, in the suburbs of Kansas City. My name is Chris, and my callsign is N0VIG.

My blog has updates from my ham radio adventures. The articles section has longer-form writings about various radio topics. If you’re interested, you can also read a little bit more about me and my station.

The Operator

My name is Chris Vig, and I am from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I enjoy both the technical and social aspects of ham radio. I am most active on CW and FT8, but you can also occasionally hear me on SSB as well.

I am active in Parks on the Air (both as an activator and hunter), and also enjoy contesting, DXing, and the occasional ragchew.

The Station

My base station consists of a Yaesu FT-710 for HF/50M, and a Yaesu FTM-510 for VHF/UHF. I also have a Yaesu FT-891 which I use for portable operation.

My base station antenna is a commercial OCF dipole in my backyard, which is resonant on the 10, 15, 20, and 40 meter bands. I can also work the WARC bands using an antenna tuner. For mobile operations, I use a Chelegance MC-750 whip antenna, which lets me work any band between 40 meters and 10 meters by adjusting the size of the antenna.
